High School in an Islamic Environment – The Marifah Way

A New Era of High School Education

Education in Ontario has evolved. With the rise of eLearning options for high school students, families now have more flexibility than ever in choosing how their children earn the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).

But for many Muslim families, flexibility alone isn’t enough. Faith, character, identity, and community are just as important as academic success.

What Is eLearning in High School?

eLearning refers to students completing OSSD-accredited courses online, either:

  • Synchronously – Students attend live online classes on a regular schedule, with real-time interaction with teachers and classmates.
  • Asynchronously – Students work independently at their own pace, completing assignments and assessments under the guidance of certified teachers, but without fixed class times.

These options are recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and are available through various public and private institutions.

Who Offers OSSD eLearning in Ontario?

Here are some examples of institutions offering Ministry-approved high school courses online:

Public School Board Virtual Programs
  1. Ottawa Catholic School Board (OCSB) – Offers synchronous courses via Blessed Carlo Virtual School.
  2. Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) – Offers both synchronous and asynchronous options via OCDSB Virtual Campus.
  3. Other boards across Ontario, including TDSB, YRDSB, and Peel DSB, offer similar programs.

These programs are free for students registered in the respective boards.

Private Online High Schools
  1. TVO ILC (Independent Learning Centre)
    • Offers asynchronous, self-paced OSSD courses.
    • Website: www.ilc.org
    • Cost: ~$40 per course for Ontario residents.
  2. Virtual High School (VHS)
  3. Ontario eSecondary School (OES)
    • Offers flexible start dates and fast-tracking options.
    • Website: www.oes.edu.ca

These programs typically have a per-course fee and may offer more flexible timelines.

Where Marifah School Fits In

At Marifah School, we recognize that while eLearning provides academic flexibility, students still need:

  • A daily routine
  • A moral and faith-based environment
  • Guidance and mentoring
  • Help staying on track

That’s why we created the Marifah High School Learning Support Program — a unique offering where:

  • Students attend Marifah School daily (8:30 AM – 3:00 PM)
  • They complete OSSD courses online via an eLearning provider of their choice
  • They participate in a structured daily routine that includes:
    • 🕌 Qur’an, Islamic Studies, Tafseer, Hadith, Duas
    • 🧑‍🏫 Academic coaching, quiet study sessions, and assignment help
    • 👫 A faith-based peer environment
    • 🤲 Daily congregational prayers

This program allows students to stay grounded in their Islamic identity while continuing their academic journey.

Who Is This Program For?

  • Muslim teens who want a safe, faith-filled environment
  • Girls and boys who prefer to avoid co-ed public high schools
  • Families waiting for a spot in overbooked Islamic high schools
  • Newcomer families needing extra guidance and ESL support
  • Self-motivated students who can thrive in a flexible learning model

Whether your child is entering Grade 9 or already in Grades 10–12, Marifah can help provide the structure and support they need.
