Position Title: Teacher  – Grades 1 to 8  – Full-time  / Occasional 
Reports to: Principal

Teacher Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum Planning and Implementation:
    • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans aligned with Ontario curriculum standards for Grades 1 to 6.
    • Integrate Islamic teachings seamlessly into daily lessons and activities.
  2. Student Assessment and Progress Monitoring:
    • Assess student performance using a variety of assessment methods.
    • Provide timely and constructive feedback to students and parents.
  3. Classroom Management:
    • Establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
    • Manage classroom behavior in accordance with Marifah School’s values and expectations.
  4. Differentiated Instruction:
    • Tailor lessons to accommodate diverse learning styles and abilities within the classroom.
    • Implement strategies to support students with various academic needs.
  5. Islamic Studies Instruction:
    • Integrate Islamic Studies into the curriculum, fostering a deep understanding and appreciation of Islamic values.
    • Organize and participate in Islamic and cultural activities.
  6. Parental Communication:
    • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, upcoming events, and educational initiatives.
    • Attend and actively participate in parent-teacher conferences.
  7. Cultural and Religious Celebrations:
    • Plan and participate in cultural and religious celebrations to enrich students’ understanding of Islamic and diverse cultures.
  8. Professional Development:
    • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with educational best practices.
    • Collaborate with colleagues to enhance the overall educational experience.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a relevant field.
  • OCT certification (preferred).
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Curriculum for Grades 1 to 6
  • 5 years’ experience teaching in elementary schools in Canada or at International Schools
  • Proven experience in creating a positive and engaging learning environment for young children.
  • Professional and respectful attitude with parents, colleagues and administration
  • Evidence of sensitivity and respect for others and a willingness to work within cultural boundaries.
  • Experience developing curriculum
  • Professional learning community (PLC) knowledge and background preferred.
  • Proven experience in programming for students of all abilities, interests, and learning styles.
  • Proficient in English language (oral and written). Fluency additionally in Arabic and/or French is preferred
  • Strong communication both oral and written, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to be part of a collaborative educational team.
  • In-depth understanding and commitment to Islamic values.
  • Recent criminal background check, including a vulnerable sector search (VSS).
  • Legal authorization to work in Canada
